Installing the BrightTALK for Salesforce Connector
The BrightTALK for Salesforce Connector can be found in the Salesforce AppExchange store. To install it you'll need to be a Salesforce Admin and follow these steps:
1. Visit this page and click the green "Get It Now" button.
2. Install the application in either your production or sandbox account
3. Confirm the package details and decide which Users you want accessing the App
4. Finally, approve third-party access so that the App can connect to BrightTALK's APIs and receive data
5. The App will now begin installing. This may take up to 5 minutes to complete and you will be notified via email when it's complete.
Connecting your BrightTALK Channel(s)
Once you've installed the App, you can begin to Connect your BrightTALK Channel(s) by following these steps:
1. From the "All Tabs" area, find and click on the "BrightTALK Channels" object:
2. From the BrightTALK Channel(s) Object, select "New"
3. You will now be prompted to enter your BrightTALK Channel Owner email and password. These are the same credentials that you use to login to the Admin area of your BrightTALK Channel.
4. Once you've entered your credentials, you will see a list of Channel(s) that you are the Admin for. Click "Add" next to the one you wish to setup first:
5. You will now see options for setting up your field mappings. BrightTALK supports two types of mappings:
-Lead fields
-Contact fields
Map the Lead and Contact fields you would like BrightTALK to write to and hit "Save" at the top. In addition to providing standard data such as name and email, we also provide a number of optional custom fields. More information about the available fields can be found here.
If you have additional Channels, simply repeat this step to connect each one.
Configuring BrightTALK for Salesforce
At this point, you've now successfully completed the installation and setup process and data will begin syncing to your Salesforce instance from your BrightTALK Channel. In order to get the most of your Connector, we recommend also completing the following steps:
1. Running a historical sync: By default, the Connector will only sync data moving forward. We recommend that when you first setup the Connector that you also sync any missing historical data by following these steps:
- Go to your Channel(s) in Salesforce and manually change the dates on the right-hand side to the date you want the sync to run from (i.e. how far back do you want to go):
- Then, from the "All Tabs" area, select the "BrightTALK Configuration" object:
- Then click the "Reschedule" button to initiate the historical sync. Note: Depending on the size of the sync, it may take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours for this historical sync to complete.
2. Adding the BrightTALK Objects to the Lead and Contact Layouts: In addition to providing custom fields, BrightTALK also provides two Custom objects that can be used for better tracking, reporting, and lead follow-up:
BrightTALK Subscriber Activities: This will provide a list of every webinar a lead or contact has engaged with. For a full list of the available fields for this view, please see this article.
BrightTALK Webcast Attachment Summaries: This will provide a list of every attachment a lead or contact has engaged with. For a full list of the available fields for this view, please see this article:
To add these two objects to your view:
1) From a lead or contact, select "Edit Layout"
2) Go to "Related Lists" and drag and drop the two objects into your view
3) Then add the fields you would like to see by clicking the "wrench" icon next to the object.
Syncing to Salesforce Campaigns
If you are using Salesforce Campaigns to track your marketing performance, you can setup a one to one relationship between your BrightTALK webinars and your Salesforce Campaigns by following these steps:
- First grab the ID of the Salesforce Campaign you want to connect to (i.e "701D00000018syC"). This is typically found in the url of the Campaign
- Then, while either creating or editing a BrightTALK webinar in your Channel, add that value to the "Campaign Reference" field:
And that's it! Webinar leads will now flow automatically from your BrightTALK webinars to your Salesforce Campaigns.
